Kikkawa Motokos Japanese
Girls, running until the 6th of February 2002.
Kikkawa-san is a Tokyo-born, Melbourne-based photographer.
She started taking photos of fellow students when studying philosophy
at university and her career grew from there.
The photos in the exhibition were taken in Japan, Europe and Melbourne
and in the artists words represent pretty little things
in plastic bags, a startling interpretation of Japans
preoccupation with wrapping and plastic. The unusual handmade
yellow foam frames and plastic covering the photos enhance this
effect.
Kikkawa-san
is currently looking for models for her next project M/F,
Japanese or other. If you are interested please contact the
bar.

Tuesday - Sunday 6pm to 1am. Kitchen until 10pm. Functions welcome!
Ume Nomiya opened in September 2001 to satisfy those looking for a place
to enjoy Japanese alcohol and food. Its a mixture of the old and the
new, with heavy wooden furniture and textile hangings mixing with DJs
and art exhibitions. The clientele ranges from Fitzroy locals to
homesick Japanese and Japanophiles.
The food menu changes every couple of weeks and offers customers a range
of snacks and mains you're not likely to find on other Japanese menus
around town. The brief to the chef: cheap, tasty and interesting. Go to
the kitchen page on the website to see the current menu.
In addition to the food and regular DJs, Ume is well-known for its
cocktails. And every Sunday you can buy Sapporo Black Label beer 2 for
