Japanese fashion for older women

Postby donna bee » Fri Jan 05, 2007 12:37 am

Hi there, I wonder if you can help me please? I am a fashion designer living in England and am slightly obsessed with Japanese fashions :D. I am interested in the fashions for women in their mid twenties to mid thirties. I have tried searching on the net for these but can only find fashions worn by teens and early twenties.

If anyone can give me any information on this I would be very grateful.

Thank you

There are some mid twenties in the following photo galleries:

In May I will be in Tokyo again to take some more pictures. I suppose as a photographer you tend to focus on the extremes in fashion and that is more what the younger people are wearing.

Thank you for that Craig. I had a look and noticed the similarities to the way british people dress, it's no different really. Am I to take it that when Japanese ladies reach a certain age, they stop with the dressing up and become a bit more staid? much like english women?

The only major difference I can think of is the very high consumption of brand name clothing and accessories, such as LV hand bags etc. These are not fakes either. I have never seen so much of this sort of thing.

This article will give you a bit of an idea of the focus on brand names in Japan http://www.gojapango.com/tokyo/harajuku.htm (note lower down the page)
