Model agencies in Japan.

Postby Chocolate » Fri Jan 05, 2007 6:56 am

Can someone please help me with some web-sites of model agencies from Japan , any city. Just that i`ve searched the web and i didn`t find any agencies with JAPANESE models. Some sites where i can find not models , just the girls that are photographed are good too. Or maybe some webpage of photographers.. Please , i really need to find out so i can settle my mind.

And another thing. Is a "model" diffrent then a girl that is just photographed ?? Or, all the girls that have so called "albums" on diffrent Japan sites -excluding nude-, are all "models" . I thing a model is someone that walks the cat-walk and does fashion , clothing, commercials or presentations. I need to understand the difference between photos made in a studio -proffesional photos- and "models". In my country for example those 2 are totally separated branches of "fashion". Models in my country have at least 175 cm height, they are thin, and NOT ALWAYS so pretty, girls that do a commercial on a product have a beautifull face, but the height doesn`t matter so much. They just take photos in a studio, or outside , etc..

http://www.elite-tokyo.co.jp/ is a good place to start. ;) In what regard are you trying to settle your mind?

"Model" is a fairly broad term, but my interpretation of it is where there is some kind of commercial/monetary aspect involved - usually when the model receives payment for their work, or if a company is profiting from the use of that work, regardless of whether it's fashion shows, catalogues, TV commercials, etc.

I mainly say this because it's not like I can just stand there on the beach and have my photo taken and *WHAM* I'm an instant model. :P So unless the person at least has a photographic portfolio and is on a model agency roster then I think it's a bit of a grey area.

I suppose an exception to this would be "art" models, but that's something I have no clue about whatsoever, heh.

This is all my opinion, though. ;) Maybe someone else can shed a little more light on the matter.

The top agencies in Tokyo are - Donna, Bravo, Stage, Agence Presse, Zucca, Switch, Yoshie, Image, Satoru. All of them represent foreign models

BUT, unless you already have a Japanese passport, you will first need to be signed to an agency in your home country before you could be sponsored for a visa to model in Japan, unless you were coming over under another visa category like a student visa
