Tokyo features many examples of modern architecture from Japanese and international architects. The Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923 combined with the fire bombing of World War II have meant that there are very examples of old Tokyo architecture. However some temples and shrines were rebuilt and some more recent buildings survived the fire bombing.
