AOMORI MAIN CITIES and TOWNS

Aomori lies at the north end of Honshu. Aomori is the capital of Aomori Prefecture and the site of one side of the Seikan Tunnel which connects the island of Honshu to the island of Hokkaido. The major attractions of Aomori include museums and the Hakkoda Mountains, which are a good locations for trekking with hot spas.

Hachinohe is located on the coastal area facing the Pacific Ocean in Aomori Prefecture Tohoku Region at the northern end of Honshu Island. The main attractions in Hachinohe are Kabushima Shrine including its forty thousand Black tailed Gulls, Enburi Festival (February 17 -20) and the ruins of Hachinohe Castle and Ne Castle.

Hirosaki is located in Aomori Prefecture Tohoku Region at the northern end of Honshu Island. The main attractions in Hirosaki are Hirosaki Castle and its surrounding park where 2,600 cherry blossom blossom in Golden Week (April). The Hirosaki Neputa Festival is held in the first week of August.

AOMORI CASTLES

Hirosaki Castle is a flatland style Japanese Castle located in the central of Hirosaki city, Aomori Prefecture . Hirosaki Castle, also known as Takaoka Castle, was built in 1611, however the current donjon was completed in 1811 on a different location to the original donjon. The palace buildings and most of the castle walls were removed in 1871. In 1906 two of the turrets were burnt down. In 1937 eight structures were declared National Treasures, despite this all the bronze, roofing tiles and decorations, was stripped from the castle in 1944. Three turrets from the Edo period survive.

AOMORI GARDENS and PARKS

Ashino Park, located in Goshogawara Aomori Prefecture , is famous for its cherry blossom and is considered one of Japan's Top 100 Cherry Blossom Spots. Ashino Park, which covers over 80 hectares, includes a lake, 2,200 cherry blossom trees and 1,300 pine trees.

Hirosaki Park, located in Hirosaki Aomori Prefecture , is famous for its 5,000 cherry blossom trees which surround Hirosaki Castle, also known as Takaoka Castle. The cherry blossom trees include Someiyoshino, weeping cherry tree and the double flowering Yaezakura. Hirosaki Park is considered one of Japan's Top 100 Cherry Blossom Spots.
