Dazaifu

Dazaifu is a city close to Fukuoka with many attractions including Fukuoka National Museum, beautiful gardens and shrines. Dazaifu is the former capital of Kyushu.

Fukuoka

Fukuoka, also known by its traditional name Hakata, is the largest city on the island of Kyushu and the capital city of Fukuoka Prefecture. Fukuoka is a modern city with mainly new buildings, which is famous for its festivals and its food including ramen. Fukuoka attractions include Canal City Hakata, Fukuoka Tower, Kyushu National Museum, Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine, Komyozenji Temple and Sumiyoshi Shrine.

Hakata

Hakata is a major part of central Fukuoka. Japanese often refer to Fukuoka as Hakata. Hakata has several key features including Hakata Station (the main railway station and Shinkansen terminal) and Canal City Hakata.

Kanda is a coastal town located in Fukuoka Prefecture on the island of Kyushu. Kanda is located very close to large city Kitakyushu and is effectively a suburb of Kitakyushu.

Kitakyushu is a large city in Fukuoka Prefecture on the coastline of the southern island of Kyushu right near the main island of Honshu. Kitakyushu is famous for the Kokura Castle.

FUKUOKA CASTLES

Fukuoka Castle, also known as Maizuru Castle, was a hilltop style Japanese Castle located adjacent to Ohori Koen (Park) in Fukuoka. Nagamasa ordered the construction of Fukuoka Castle in 1601. When Fukuoka Castle was completed in 1607 it had 47 turrets and covered 47,000 square metres making it the largest castle in Kyushu. Today Fukuoka Castle features the remaining stone walls and ramparts left after a devastating fire during the upheaval of the Meiji Restoration, along with some reconstructed prefabricate concrete towers constructed during the 1950s and 1960s.

Dazaifu Tenman-gu Shrine

Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine is a Shinto Shrine located in Dazaifu, Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan. Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine features some very beautiful Japanese gardens.

Komyozenji Temple

Komyozenji Temple in Dazaifu near Fukuoka, features two styles of Japanese garden; a stone zen garden plus a stone and moss garden. Komyozenji Temple was established in 1273 by a Buddhist priest called Tetsugyu Enshin.

Kushida Shrine

Kushida Shrine of Hakata (Fukuoka) is widely known as Okushida-san. Kushida Shrine of Hakata dates back to 757.

Mangyoji Temple

Mangyoji Temple, located in Hakata (Fukuoka), is a Buddhist temple from the Shin sect. Mangyoji Temple was established by Shoku in 1529.

Sumiyoshi Shrine

Sumiyoshi Shrine in Hakata (Fukuoka) is believed to be the first of the approximately 2000 Sumiyoshi Shrine throughout Japan.

Kyushu National Museum

Kyushu National Museum is major museum located just outside Fukuoka city in Dazaifu. Kyushu National Museum focuses on the historical interaction of the region with Asia.

Canal City

Canal City Hakata (Fukuoka) is commercial complex is built around an artificial canal, consisting of hotels, a theatre, a movie theatre, shops, restaurants, specialty stores and showrooms. Canal City Hakata features very distinctive architecture which helps to make it a major tourist attraction.

Fukuoka Tower is a 234 metre tower located close to the seaside. Fukuoka Tower has three observation decks for stunning views of Fukuoka.

Nishi Park (Nishi Koen) in Fukuoka is famous for its 1,000 plus cherry blossom trees. Nishi Park is considered one of Japan's Top 100 Cherry Blossom Spots. Nishi Park also contains the Terumo Shrine.

Space World is theme park based on space and science fiction, located in Kitakyushu Fukuoka Prefecture. Space World even offers a space camp which includes use of the same equipment used to train NASA astronauts.

FUKUOKA AIRPORTS

Fukuoka Airport, (IATA: FUK, ICAO: RJFF), is an international and domestic airport located only 3km from Hakata Station in central Fukuoka. Fukuoka Airport is the fourth busiest in Japan, but is limited by an early night curfew of 10pm. Fukuoka Airport is connected to the rest of Fukuoka via the Fukuoka City Subway.

Hakata Station

Hakata Station is the main railway station in Fukuoka. Hakata Station is the terminus for the Sanyo Shinkansen.

Mitsukoshi Department Store Fukuoka is part of an international department store chain founded in 1673 with the yago (shop name) Echigoya. The Mitsukoshi Department Store chain has its headquarters located in Tokyo. The Mitsukoshi Department Store chain was the basis for the development of the massive Mitsui Group. Mitsukoshi Department Store Fukuoka is located in Fukuoka.
