TOTTORI SAND DUNES

Tottori Sand Dunes, close to Tottori City, are the only large sand dune system in Japan. The Tottori Sand Dunes cover over 30kmsq and have existed for over 100,000 years. The sand is generated from the sedimentary deposits of the near by Sendai River which are driven on shore from the wind and currents in the Sea of Japan. The Tottori Sand Dunes are a major tourist attraction for the area.
