TSUYUNOTEN SHRINE

Tsuyunoten Shrine is a tranquil oasis among the noise of busy Umeda in central Osaka. Tsuyunoten Shrine dates back to the 6th century.

You will be amazed when you step in this area. Tsuyunoten Shrine, generally called Ohatsu Tenjin) is a very tranquil shrine among the busy streets in Osaka. Since established in 6th century, Ohatsu Tenjin has taking a significant role in Sonezaki/Umeda area. In 1703, a couple suicided at this shrine and the story was written by Monzaemon Chikamatsu for Bunraku puppet play, called Sonezaki Shinju. The story of pure and passionate love was written so beautifully that it made him very famous. There is a narrow alley near Ohatsu Tenjin, where many little bars and cafes are running their businesses in tiny old buildings. Some of them have a really good reputation.
