Tottori is the capital city of Tottori Prefecture in the Chugoku region on Honshu island. TOTTORI CASTLES

Tottori Castle was a mountain style Japanese Castle located in Tottori Tottori Prefecture in Chugoku region. In 1581 Tottori Castle was besieged by Toyotomi Hideyoshi, which lasted 200 days forcing Kikkawa Tsuneie and his fellow defenders to surrender due to starvation. Today only some of the stone walls and one of the gates remain.

TOTTORI LANDMARKS

Tottori Sand Dunes, located close to Tottori City, are the only large sand dune system in Japan. The Tottori Sand Dunes cover over 30kmsq and have existed for over 100,000 years. The sand is generated from the sedimentary deposits of the near by Sendai River which are driven on shore from the wind and currents in the Sea of Japan. The Tottori Sand Dunes are a major tourist attraction for the area.

Kyusho Park, located in Tottori city in Tottori Prefecture, is famous for its cherry blossom being considered one of Japan's Top 100 Cherry Blossom Spots. Kyusho Park also contains the ruins of Tottori Castle.
