Kurashiki Bikan Area is designated as a National Historic Building Preservation Area and a popular tourist location. Kurashiki Bikan Area is located 15 mintues from Okayama. Kurashiki is a historic area located 15 minutes by train from Okayama, in the Chugoku region of Japan, sitting on the Takahashi River. Kurashiki Bikan Area is a very popular tourist spot for its unique character. It has a blending of Japanese and western, as well as antiquity and modernism. During Edo Period (1603-1868), Kurashiki was directly governed by the Tokugawa Shogunate. There used to be many storehouses of merchants to store the local products which were gathered here via rivers. These nostalgic white-walled storehouses have been preserved very well and are now used for galleries, cafes and souvenir shops to entertain visitors. Kurashiki Bikan Area is designated as a National Historic Building Preservation Area.
