    Ujigami jinja Shrine was originally built as a guardian shrine for the nearby Byodo-in Temple. Ujigami jinja Shrine, in Uji, Kyoto, is believed to be the oldest shrine building in Japan, dating back to the 14th century. Ujigami jinja Shrine is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and forms part of the “Historic Monuments of Ancient Kyoto (Kyoto, Uji and Otsu Cities)” listing.
