Rainbow Bridge is a suspension bridge over the Tokyo Port, on the northernmost part of Tokyo Bay, connecting the Shibaura Wharf and the new waterfront development area, known as Odaiba. Rainbow Bridge is an elegant looking bridge and features in many day and night time pictures of Tokyo. The bridge features three primary colored lights, which allow many different lighting effects to be displayed on the bridge at night. Pedestrians can walk across Rainbow Bridge on either side of the lower deck, where views of Tokyo Tower and parts of the inner Tokyo Harbour can be seen on the north side, while views across Tokyo city towards Mt Fuji (on a very clear day) can be seen on the south side. The upper of the two decks carries cars (Shuto Expressway’s Daiba Route), while the lower deck carries the fully automated (driverless) rubber wheeled Yurikamome Rapid Transit System and the two pedestrian walk ways. Rainbow Bridge has a total length of 798m, with its longest span being 570m and a height of 126m (towers) and deck at 52m. Construction on Rainbow Bridge started in 1987, with completion in 1993.

The best part of Rainbow Bridge isn’t when you are on it, it is when you see it from some distance. Rainbow Bridge looks particularly great at night and some times there are special light shows run on the bridge.
