Harajuku is a significant fashion and shopping district, but it also includes Tokyo’s most popular shine, Meiji Jingu Shrine and one of the most significant parks in Tokyo, Yoyogi Park. Harajuku is located in the central Tokyo Special Ward of Shibuya and normally refers to the area around Harajuku Station and down Omotesando (street leading to Shrine).

    Harajuku Shopping

There are two main shopping areas: Omotesando which is full of cafes and international brand clothing boutiques along with the up market Omotesando Hills shopping complex and Takeshita-dori that features smaller boutiques selling more leading edge fashion. We have detailed guide to Harajuku Shopping which provides more information on this popular shopping location.

    Harajuku Fashion

Harajuku is world famous for its fashion, however the Harajuku fashion is frequently confused with the cosplay (costume playing) which takes place on the bridge next to Harajuku Station on Sunday afternoons. Here many young Japanese dress in costumes to look like their favorite Japanese rock stars or anime characters.

Harajuku is incredible for how much it offers. Meiji Jingu Shrine alone makes this district worth visiting. On any other day shopping and architecture are well worth experiencing, but on Sunday afternoon seeing the cosplay on Harajuku Bridge is simply amazing.
