Profile
Omotesando is a wide tree lined avenue in Harajuku famous for its shopping. Omotesando is a generic term meaning path or road leading to a shrine. In this case Omotesando, is the road leading to Meiji Jingu shrine located in Harajuku district of the Shibuya Ward. As Meiji Jingu shrine is the most popular shrine in Tokyo, the road is simply referred to as Omotesando and people understand what is meant.
Omotesando is full of cafes and international brand clothing boutiques along with the up market Omotesando Hills shopping complex. There aren’t as many stores of the very top international brands as there are in Ginza, but it is still impressive. Omotesando is in stark contrast to Takeshita-dori, only a short walk away, which features boutiques selling less well know brands that are much closer to the cutting edge of fashion.
